Senior Pictures Denver | Maddy

Senior pictures in Denver

Meet Maddy one of our Class of 2017 Model reps. Maddy attends Rocky Mountain High School. We did her senior pictures in Denver near our studio in the Rino Arts District. Maddy is a horse lover and actually trains and competes with her horses. Check back next month to see senior photos we are going to do with her horses. I love incorporating what’s important in each seniors life for their portraits.

My senior year I am most looking forward to delevoping new, close friendships and allowing current ones to flourish.

This summer I am looking forward to traveling to California to go surfing, riding my horses, and starting a new job.

My favorite thing to do in Colorado, besides ride horses of course, is ski with my friends. I love the mountains.

Something people may not know about me is that I want to take a gap year before college to hopefully travel and learn more about my passions.

My favorite memory growing up is camping with family and close friends. We’ve done this multiple times.

My dream vacation would be to travel to Hawaii with my family. I would like to explore the area and surf the legendary waves.

My proudest moment was very recent, I performed with my horse in front of an audience of hundreds at liberty, which means without any ropes holding the horse to me. I moved the audience to tears.

My biggest struggle is still music. It is something I am so passionate about but am also very insecure about. I have to remind myself to not compare myself to others.

I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up, I’m hoping to figure that out soon!

If I won the lottery, I would set aside enough for both mine and my brother’s college tuition, set aside some to give to my parents, donate at least 30% to charity, and maybe use the rest to help myself later in life.

I would like it if schools could change how hey award students. It would be more encouraging to spread the wealth rather than focus on a few extraordinary people.

My favorite thing about school is the challenges it presents me with to help me grow. I also adore the friendships I’ve made.

My favorite tradition with my friends is going to the drive in multiple times during summer.

My current favorite musical artist is James Bay, I love his style.

My favorite concert experience was at the Taste of Fort Collins because it only cost $5 to see Andy Grammar with my best friends, right up close!

My favorite places to shop include PacSun, Forever 21, and American Eagle.

I have a large variety of music, but my favorite jam song is Larger Than Life by Pinkzebra because I think the message it tells is inspiring.

My favorite movies are Star Wars, Endless Summer, and Pitch Perfect.

The colleges I would like to go to are Univeristy of Michigan, Colorado State Univeristy, and CU Boulder. I don’t know what I will major in yet. Possibly music education or equine sciences.

I could not live without music, my horses, or my relationships (friends and family). All of these are vital to my well being and happiness.

Denver senior pictures | Travis

Denver senior pictures

Another great senior model rep for Roka Studios to share. Travis attends Legacy High School and we found a unique location for his Denver senior pictures. Travis has a passion for dancing and wants to pursue it after high school. From what I have seen in person-see photos below, but mainly on social media Travis has mad skills and wins quite a few awards. We always love incorporating what is important into our senior photos and delivering something unique in their portraits. Below is his interview.

Looking forward to the most your senior year:
The thing I’m looking forward to the most my senior year is getting to spend time with all of my friends before we all take off on our own adventures.

This summer I am looking forward to:
This summer, I’m most excited to go to Hollywood Vibe Dance Convention/Competition’s Nationals! They’re being held in Las Vegas at the end of June/early July. I can’t wait to spend quality time with my dance company while also getting to learn from huge choreographers and instructors in the dance industry as well as partake in auditions that could change my life.

Favorite thing to do in Colorado:
My favorite thing to do in Colorado would have to be going to Boulder. I love the atmosphere and there’s loads of things to do there.

Something friends/people might not know about me:
Something that friends/people might not know about me is that I am a night owl. I love to stay up until 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning. I don’t know why I enjoy it so much, but staying up that late makes me feel accomplished for some reason.

Your favorite memory growing up:
My favorite memory growing up would have to be going to Destin, Florida with all of the friends I grew up with. My family lived in Colorado while the rest of them still lived in Missouri and it was such a great time because we got to spend the whole week with  people we adored while also being at the beach.

Your dream vacation:
My dream vacation would have to be going to Italy. There’s something about Italy that I think is so beautiful. The food is probably pretty good, too.
If not Italy, then I would have to say Disney World. Disney brings out the little kid in everyone and being there makes me so incredibly happy.

Your proudest moment:
My proudest moment is when I went to Virginia at the end of April/beginning of May to compete and take class at the Hollywood Vibe dance convention. I set a goal to win a certain scholarship that would pay for my nationals fees, give me an invitation to audition for their company, and I would win free convention classes for a year. I set my mind to that goal, and I achieved it. This summer, I get to audition for their company and I can go back to the convention as many times as i want within the next year for free. This might not seem like a huge deal to some, but to me, it boosted my confidence and finally started to make me realize I’m a good dancer

Your biggest struggle:
My biggest struggle so far has been my confidence. It has gotten better since I came back from Hollywood Vibe Virginia, but it still needs improvement. I haven’t always been the greatest dancer. I went to a studio that didn’t treat me properly and didn’t care about how well their students could dance, and then I switched studios. Ever since I switched, I’ve been training anywhere between 15-24 hours a week and have decided to pursue dance as a career. I’ve improved immensely over the past few years, however, I still have the mindset that I’m not a good dancer. I know that that’s not true, but my brain won’t let me shake my confidence issues.

Dance and senior photos

When I grow up I want to be:
A professional dancer! I can’t picture myself doing anything else with my life. Dance makes me feel so full and so happy. Doing anything else with my life could never fulfill me like dance will.

If I won the lottery I would:
I’d definitely give some to my mom and my sister because they’re my number one fans, I’d buy myself a nice house and some nice things, maybe open up my own dance studio, and donate some money to pediatric cancer research.

What would you like to change about school:
I’d like to change how majority of the classes we take won’t benefit us in our adult life. I think we should have to take a finance class, a class where we learn how to pay bills, or something that would be beneficial to us.

What is your favorite thing about school:
My favorite thing about school is that I get to see my friends. I have such a busy schedule outside of school, and getting to see them at school makes things much easier.

What is your favorite tradition with your family or friends:
My favorite family tradition is setting up the Christmas tree on Thanksgiving night. We’ve set up the tree for as long as I can remember and it makes me so excited for Christmas time.

Favorite musical artist:
My favorite musical artist would have to be either Sam Smith or Adele. Both of them use their emotions when they write their songs and there songs are more relatable than anything else on the radio and you can feel that whatever they’re writing about happened to them and their music helps them get through their struggles.

First  or favorite concert experience and why:
My favorite concert experience would have to be going to see Sam Smith with my sister. We’re both huge Sam Smith fans and it was before he got super popular, so it was cool to experience him before he blew up.

Favorite places to shop:
My favorite places to shop are H&M, Forever 21, Express, or American Eagle

Your jam song and why:
My jam song is “Be Right There” by Diplo and Sleepy Tom because it has a really good beat and puts me in a good mood every time I listen to it.

Favorite movies:
My favorite movie would have to be Bridesmaids. I could watch it 100 times and it would never get old. It’s still funny to me even though I’ve seen it way too many times.

Your list of possible colleges and your major:
University of Arizona, Chapman University, Relativity, AMDA, possibly Pace University.
I want to either major in Dance, or double major in Dance and Business/Marketing

Denver senior portraits | Katie

Denver senior Portraits
Meet Katie, one of our Class of 2017 Senior Model Reps for Roka Studios. Katie attends Denver School of the Arts. We photographed her Denver senior portraits around our studio in the Rino Arts District. Below is her interview. I am constantly amazed at all the seniors I have photographed, with their dreams, goals, and what they have already accomplished as such a young age.
Looking forward to the most your senior year:
I’m looking forward to finally being the oldest in the school, and having the entire future ahead of me. I’ve always been told by those around me that I can do anything that I put my mind to, and it seems that now is finally the time to start doing things! I’m also looking super forward to auditioning for colleges and touring them later in the year!
This summer I am looking forward to:
This will be my first time spending the summer as a lifeguard, so I’m super stoked to start. I’ve heard it’s pretty scary at first but I’m sure it’ll be great! I’m also in the musical ‘Heathers’ this summer with a bunch of my friends, which will be a hoot.
Favorite thing to do in Colorado:
I love to go hiking! Especially up past Boulder. Nederland is beautiful, and there are so many cool places to discover like local bookshops and restaurants.
Something friends/people might not know about me:
I’m obsessed with quotes. Whether they’re quotes from a book, movie, song, or just something someone said I will write it down. I have a jar filled with quotes in my room, write them on random papers and keep a list on my phone. There’s so much power in words that to not collect the ones that make you feel something would almost be a waste.

Your favorite memory growing up:
I would walk to my grandparent’s house from school everyday with my elementary friends and we would play tag, hide and seek, and go into my friend Skyla’s house nearly every day. Although I don’t really talk to my elementary school friends as much anymore, I treasure the memories I have with them.
Your dream vacation:
I would love to backpack or take the Eurail across Europe with a few of my friends one summer. I’ve never been to Europe, and I feel like there are so many places to explore. I still may convince a few of my friends to travel with me the summer before college, there’s so much culture and music and food to experience that anywhere in Europe would be fantastic!
Your proudest moment:
I’d say getting into DSA (Denver School of the Arts) is probably my proudest moment. My vocal teacher doesn’t know this, but I left my audition crying and believing I didn’t have the slightest chance of getting into the school. The school seemed like a dream when I first started attending and has since become my home  (though sometimes it’s been nightmare, like all high schools are) and I am so proud to have been given the amazing opportunity to play a role in the vocal department.
Your biggest struggle:My biggest struggle, for the most part, has been loving and believing in myself. I think one of the most difficult parts of growing up is becoming your own person, not just an echo of those around you, and being able to love and believe in yourself is one of the toughest skills to master. Finding love for yourself isn’t always easy, but this is the only body and spirit that you have, and this has been something that I have accepted. Though I still struggle sometimes to fully allow myself to be unyieldingly who I am, I am lucky to be surrounded by people who truly appreciate the person that I have become, and am still growing to be.

When I grow up I want to be:
Happy. I know that this sounds cheesy, but sometimes a lack of success in one thing can lead to being successful in something else. I would say in life I would like to be successful, but success doesn’t necessarily reap joy, so I will hope for success and aim to be happy. Though happiness isn’t a location, I can strive to live my life to the fullest and be content with my life and my choices at the end of the day.
If I won the lottery I would:If I won the lotto tomorrow I would probably only be able to afford a college degree and maybe some snacks? I would probably purchase about 2 family packages of cosmic brownies and a giant jar of cheese puffs.
What would you like to change about school: Although cliche, I would change the amount of standardized testing that is implemented in the public school system. The amount of tests that students are required to take in their years of elementary, middle and high school is exhausting, and extremely stressful. On top of this, many students are taught that your intelligence and inherently your self worth is measurable by your grades and test scores, which is not necessarily the case. Students in our current education system actively practice memorization for tests rather than true organic learning. This heavy focus on testing can lead to higher anxiety and depression levels among teens, and can potentially lead to under funded schools to continue to get less than quality funding, as a large amount of federal funding is based on testing.
What is your favorite thing about school:
My favorite thing about school (or at least my school) is that it cultivates and encourages free thinking and the building of opinions. This is especially true in our social studies and language classes, as often times there can be controversial issues or essay prompts that require your beliefs or experiences to be shared. I’ve found I have grown to think more creatively, state what I believe boldly, and face the world with a curious and open mind from attending my school.
What is your favorite tradition with your family or friends:I would say that my favorite tradition with my friends is going over to our friend Livi’s house before a concert and getting ready. Through doing this, all of us have found a second home and sense of family along with a really neat tradition that we will never forget.
Favorite musical artist: My favorite musical artist is actually a composer; Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim’s music is colorful and difficult, as usually the vocal and instrumental parts fit together but are very different, and I love the beautiful melodies and patterns Sondheim is able to create through his music.
First  or favorite concert experience and why: My favorite concert experience was seeing twenty one pilots last summer with a really good friend of mine and a few of his friends. Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun really know how to pump up an audience. The energy and excitement of the crowd was practically tangible. I would DIE to see them again!

Favorite places to shop: I guess it’s not really shopping, but I really love looking for cute coffee shops around areas that I spend a pretty moderate amount of time in and buying stickers from them. Supporting small business is really rad, and I love the different vibes that you can find in different areas. There’s a lot of small coffee shops around Denver especially, but my favorites are Quince Essencial, The Bardo, and Pablo’s on 6th.
Your jam song and why:
“Paper Planes” by M.I.A is definitely my jam song. I play it every single time I get in the car with my friends and what started out as an ironic fondness turned into a real life addiction to that song. I honestly listen to it whenever I need to be pumped just because it’s so catchy and my friends and I have basically the entire song memorized.

Favorite movies:
My friends make fun of me for this, but my favorite movies are usually kids movies. So I really enjoy Megamind, The Incredibles, Big Hero 6 and recently Zootopia! I also really enjoy “The Theory of Everything” and “Into the Wild”.
Your list of possible colleges and your major: I plan to audition to be a musical theatre major, and currently am narrowing down a list of 20 colleges. Some of my top choices now are Point Park University in Pennsylvania, Marymount Manhattan in New York, Michigan Ann Arbor in Michigan, Roosevelt University in Chicago and Otterbein University in Ohio.
Three things you could not live without: I couldn’t live without the endless support and love from my family (even when I’m cranky and stressed, they still put up with me), I couldn’t live without my best friends who have been there when I’ve cried about dumb boys, traveled with me across the nation (literally from New York to Hawaii), jammed out to the Descendants with me and whose love is unconditional. I couldn’t live without music, whether it be classical, musical theatre, jazz or pop; music has become a part of me that is deeply rooted in everything I am. Without music, I would not be me

Twenty Seventeen Senior Model Reps Wanted

The search starts now! Twenty Seventeen Senior Model Reps Wanted for Roka Studios. We have now opened our search for Class of 2017 seniors to become part of our team. What is a Spokesmodel and what do they do? Model reps are an extension and face of our studio. We are looking for outgoing, fashionable seniors that like to have fun.  Model reps help promote our studio and in return get a chance to earn prints, products, cash, and a destination senior session.. All our model reps get two free senior sessions from us. One in the spring and one in the summer. We provide our model reps with all the tools they need to help promote our studio. Examples of promoting our studio are handing out model cards, promoting us on social media, using our photos on social media, talking about us to other students, taking part in our styled sessions, etc.

Besides the two free sessions, our model reps favorite part is taking part of our styled and themed sessions. We go all out with professional hair and makeup, rent a killer location to photograph in, and get decked out in clothes. Check out our blog post when we rented out the Denver Clock Tower. We had a prom theme, nightlife theme, and busted out some custom made parachute dresses. In the past we have also rented out Highland Ranch Mansion for a styled session. You can see some of those image below plus some of previous senior model reps, or just some of our favorite senior portraits.

If you are interested in becoming a senior model rep for Roka Studios, the first thing you need to do is fill out an application online. You can do that here: Senior Model Rep ApplicationOnce you do that we will send you a pdf of our Senior Model Guide for you and your parents to review. Then we would need to set up a phone interview to answer any questions. I can’t wait to meet and photograph our twenty seventeen model reps.

Denver Senior Pictures | Alaina

When you think of Colorado and December, you would automatically assume that it is freezing cold with snow on the ground. Even living here for the last 16 years, I am constantly surprised how warm it can be in the winter months. Alaina came to Roka Studios for her Denver senior pictures this past December. As you will see by the photos we were able to roam around the Rino Arts District for her session. It was even warm enough for her to wear a dress. Got to love living in Colorado.

Alaina spent her summer traveling outside the United States. She now has the travel bug and wants to see the world after she graduates from Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy. She is involved with theater and dance at school. It was great to get to know her and her mom during the session. I am constantly amazed by the seniors I get to photograph. Their dreams are big and they have accomplished so much in their high school years. I love being able to see their journeys after high school on social media. Over the years we have even photographed some of our previous senior client weddings. It’s such an honor to photograph these milestones in a persons life and have it documented and cherished for years to follow.

Denver Senior Pictures

I just created a music slideshow of some of the Denver Senior Pictures we photographed last year.  Now that the senior season has ended, I am able to find some time to update the blog with all the seniors we photographed last year.  I will have many blog posts coming up in the next several months. There are so many sessions that I loved and am excited to share.  So many dreams, so many accomplishments, so many goals ahead of them. I was blown away by their talent, their athletic skills, where they wanted to go in life. Light years aheads of me when I was in high school. It was great not only to photograph them but get to know them in a short time. Thank you to all who came to Roka Studios and allow us to capture a huge milestone in your life. It was truly an honor to create senior portraits for all our clients.

In also showcasing our Denver Senior Photography, we are also opening up the search for our Class of 2017 Spokesmodels to represent Roka Studios for the next year. We are looking for outgoing, stylish, fun, athletic, & musical, people that want incredible senior photos. Spokesmodels for Roka Studios receive two free senior sessions, plus the chance to earn cash, products, and a destination senior session. Plus we will be offering fantastic themed sessions and style sessions throughout the summer. There is a lot more we offer in our Spokesmodel program and we would love to share the details with those who are interested. We only select a limited amount of spokesmodels each year. If you are interested or know someone who might,  you can fill out an application here: http://rokastudios.com/2013-senior-model-reps-wanted/.

I can’t wait to to photograph the Class of 2017 senior this coming year. We have some exciting new products to offer, wall portraits, digital collections
